Micheline Roquebrune is a professional painter famous as the wife of the late Scottish actor, Sean Connery. The pair were together from the ’70s to right until Connery’s death in late 2020. The late actor, Connery’s longtime partner, Roquebrune was born on April 4, 1929, in Nice, Alpes-Maritimes, France.

She is a Moroccan-French. Some sources suggest she also has few Scottish roots and also spent a brief period of her childhood in the United Kingdom’s territory.

Before meeting Connery, Roquebrune spent most of her youth and adult life living in her native Morocco.

The North-African citizen has diverse interests and also produces plays. In fact, her Broadway play Art earned her a Tony Award. Micheline additionally is a keen golfer, and she often played golf with her husband Sean Connery.

Roquebrune was also part of the crew on her husband’s 1983 James Bond film Never Say Never Again.

How Did Micheline And Her Husband Sean Connery Met? 

Roquebrune and the Bafta-winning actor met by chance when the James Bond star was visiting Morocco for a golf tournament in 1970. At the time, Micheline, who had been married twice before, had no idea that Connery was an A-list actor.

While talking with British newspaper The Sun in 2011 and recalling their first encounter, the French artist said she noticed Connery’s “fine physique”, but said she had “didn’t know who he was or anything about him”

Micheline says she and the Golden Globe winner, however, hit it off right away – and romped within 24 hours of meeting. The golf enthusiast said she dreamt of the Scottish actor the night after first laying eyes on him. Roquebrune admitted,

“The next day I went back to the tournament and that was that.”

In the beginning, the pair could not speak the same language, with Micheline fluent in other languages but English.

In an interview, the late Knighthood once revealed – in the early days, it was difficult for them to see each other. Connery added his future wife was still living in North Africa with her children.

Micheline Roquebrune And Sean Connery’s Marriage

The Lifetime Achievement recipient and Roquebrune married in 1975, five years after the first meeting, and lived together in the Bahamas. Micheline and Sean had a private wedding ceremony in Gibraltar in May 1975.

After meeting Micheline in the country, Connery had a great affection for Morocco and visited it many times. It was largely thanks to his Moroccan-French partner. He also used to describe his wife as an amazing woman and the “love of my life.”

In 1975, Ouarzazate would become the filming location for The Man Who Would Be King. Micheline’s late spouse once revealed the film to be his favorite that he has made.

In 2004, the annual Marrakech International Film Festival gave him the lifetime achievement award which he accepted in person.

Did Micheline And Sean Have Any Children? 

Micheline and her husband did not have any children together but they both had kids from their previous relationships.

Roquebrune though has three children from her previous marriages – Oliver, Micha, and Stephane.

She was first married to Michel Cosman with whom she had one child. Ms. Connery was then the wife of Jean-Pierre Garbe. When together, the former couple had 2 children.

As for Connery, the Untouchables actor also had one son, Jason Connery, with his first wife, actress Diane Cilento. Sean and Diane were in a marital tie for 11 years, from 1962 to 1973. The Entrapment star spurred several controversies after Diane accused him of being abusive.

Diane’s son with Sean, Jason, is now an English actor, voice actor, and director. He starred in the ITV drama series Robin Of Sherwood in 1986.

How Did Her Husband, Sean Connery Die?

The Connery family led by Micheline Roquebrune confirmed Sean died on October 31st, 2020. Sometime after his death, Micheline revealed in his final months, the seven times Bond actor suffered from dementia. She added the late James Bond actor’s dementia ‘took its toll on him.’

The Moroccon painter nonetheless affirmed her late husband ‘slipped away’ in his sleep.

“He had dementia and it took its toll on him. He got his final wish to slip away without any fuss,”

Roquebrune explained while speaking to the Mail in Nov 2020.

Prior to his death, Micheline and the Highlander star had been living in the Caribbean nation since the 1990s.

“It was no life for him. He was not able to express himself latterly. At least he died in his sleep and it was just so peaceful. I was with him all the time and he just slipped away. It was what he wanted.”

said Roquebrune.

The officials listed the cause of death as ‘respiratory failure’ due to pneumonia, old age, and atrial fibrillation – a condition causing an irregular and fast heart rate.

Micheline Roquebrune And Sean Connery’s Final Moments 

Reflecting on her life with her husband, she said: “He was gorgeous and we had a wonderful life together. He was a model of a man.

“It is going to be very hard without him, I know that. But it could not last forever and he went peacefully.”

Following the death of actor Sean Connery, Moroccan-French painter Micheline Roquebrune released a heartfelt tribute to her husband of 45 years.

She referred to him as a gorgeous man with whom she had a wonderful life.

“When I met Sean, I knew I was taking on the whole package. Everyone wants him and I have to accept and understand that,”

Roquebrune says of her deceased husband. She also put up with Sean’s affairs with Lynsey de Paul in 1989 and Nina Kraft in 1996.

In his final few years, Roquebrune’s husband, Sean rarely left the gated Lyford Cay community where he spent his retirement after packing in acting in June 2006. He had since then become a virtual recluse and had given his agent strict instructions to reject all movie offers.

Connery who had a net worth of over $350million reportedly had set up an effective trust and estate planning in place to ensure his wife Micheline would be well taken care of.

When reported in Nov 2021, Connery’s widow was planning to head to Scotland as per her gone-husbands’ wish.

  • In Nov 2020, the following month after Sean’s death, Micheline was in headlines for allegedly evading property tax in Spain. It was reportedly for involvement in a scam over the sale of her and her deceased husband’s Marbella home. Roquebrune though denied the accusations.
