US Navy Seizes 1,400 Assault Rifles From Iran-Origin Ship

Sanctions relief for Iran can’t come fast enough. They’re clearly desperate for some humanitarian aid.

The U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet said on Wednesday that two of its patrol coastal ships seized a cargo of illicit weapons from a stateless fishing vessel during a flag verification boarding in the North Arabian Sea on Monday.

The shipment consists of approximately 1,400 AK-47 assault rifles and 226,600 rounds of ammunition, the fleet said in a statement.

“The stateless vessel was assessed to have originated in Iran and transited international waters along a route historically used to traffic weapons unlawfully to the Houthis in Yemen,” it added.

The Houthis are a Shiite terror group backed by Iran. Think of them as Yemen’s Hezbollah. While the Trump administration had worked with regional allies to try to keep the Houthis from gaining control of Yemen, with a potentially serious threat to energy shipments, the Biden administration followed the Democrat line of ending support for the campaign against the Houthis which resulted in the Islamic terror group expanding and even seizing the U.S. embassy in Yemen. Meanwhile, Iran is clearly arming the Houthis to continue their Jihad.
