Two men captured trying to seize police officer’s rifle in Lagos

Two young men have made headlines over their brazen confrontation of police officers in Lagos state.

In a video making the round, the youths could be seen getting into a scuffle with two men of the Nigeria Police.

The incident happened in Meiran area of the state and it as because the officer had seized a phone which belongs to one of the guys.

They made attempts to dispossess one of the officers of his service weapon, which is a rifle

As the policeman kept struggling to maintain a firm grip on his rifle, the guy became more aggressive and forcefully tried to snatch it, which resulted in the officer falling to the ground.

Spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin reacted to the viral video by giving an update.

He said the two men have been arrested and that they would be prosecuted.

Hundeyin wrote on Twitter; ”The incident happened at Meiran. These two have been arrested and detained. I will provide further updates.”

In other news, a Magistrate court sitting in Ogba has ordered that four persons, a music producer and three National Youth Corps members be remanded at the Kirikiri Maximum Correctional facility in Apapa, Lagos.

According to Lagos Police PPRO, Benjamin Hundeyin, the four were arrested after a video of them assaulting policemen went viral on social media.

The defendants were arraigned in court on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, for “serious assault” on officers.

They are 33-year-old producer, Ehis Tito Odigie, and Miracle Onukuoforobi, 27, a student of Igbinedion University.

Others include 31-year-old Bolade Richard and 26-year-old Oyedeji Motunrayo, who are both corps members.

In the video which captured the incident, the young men could be seen engaging a group of policemen in fisticuffs.

One of them was captured on film pushing off a policeman’s cap which he later seized after picking it from the ground.

According to the Lagos State Police Command, both parties had video recordings which were reviewed.
