In other news, on Wednesday, October 20, a Niger State High Court in Minna reinstated Mohammed Barau Kontagora, who had been barred from presenting himself as the 7th Sarkin Sudan of Kontagora by a court.

After holding hearings from the defendant’s counsel, Justice Abdullahi Mikailu vacated the ex parte order. He had maintained that the emir’s stool was not a perishable item, and hence must not be left empty.

The counsel also stated that, given the current security situation in the country, traditional rulers should be involved in communicating to their subjects about security matters, and that the town must not be left without a monarch.

The court who ordered Kontagora to return to the stool pending the outcome of the substantive suit deferred the case until November 11 for a hearing.
