After images of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s visit to a mosque in Kano state were released online on Wednesday, January 19, a dispute erupted on Nigerian Twitter.

On Tuesday, the Vice President paid a condolence visit to the Tudun Yola Quarters Mosque in Kano to express his condolences for the passing of their Imam, Sheikh Ahmad Bamba Buk. The Vice President was seen in the mosque, and one of the photos showed him wearing his shoes in the mosque.

This has sparked a Twitter debate. While some Muslims were offended by the Vice President’s decision to wear shoes in the mosque, others pointed out that it meant nothing and could not be considered sacrilege.

In other news, Presidential aspirant, leader of the All Progressive Congress party (APC) Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has vowed to pay the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) expenses for qualified understudies in Nigeria when he assumes the position of the nation’s leader.

The wealthy industrialist and entrepreneur indicated his administration will ensure nobody is abandoned in education and vowed to pay WASSCE fees for every child.

Speaking at a gathering in an enclosed space, Tinubu established that the image on his cap addresses ‘breaking the shackles of destitution’; in this way he planned to do exactly that as president, and furthermore break the shackles of obliviousness, banditry among others in the country.
