My new songs are aimed at inspiring my kids – Wizkid
Popular Nigerian singer, Ayodeji Balogun, aka Wizkid says he’s now more intentional about the type of music he makes.
He said the focus is to release songs that will specifically be inspiring for his children because he knows they will listen to his song.
Speaking during Afrobeats Intelligence Podcast, Wizkid said that whenever he is making a new album or song, he always has them in consideration.
The Joro crooner said his utmost desire is to ensire that he makes music that touches his childre deeply.
In his words; “I’ve become a bit more aware and every time I work on a song or an album I’m more intentional because I know my kids are going to listen to my music. So I want to make sure I always have inspiring songs that can really touch them deeply”
Meanwhile, CorrectNG reported earlier that Big Wiz said his lyrics do not reflect his true feelings as a spiritual being.
The Starboy said that many people know him as someone who releases a lot of club bangers but what they don’t know is that he sees himself as a pastor.
Wizkid made the statement in an interview with The Guardian, as he recalled how he discovered his love of music in church.
According to the ‘Bad To Me’ crooner, hymns taught him “how to feel”, being the youngest of 11 children, raised by a Christian mother and polygamous Muslim father who had three wives.
“I’m a very spiritual human being. I know I make a lot of club records but I feel like a pastor, really,” he said.
He also spoke how music helped him while growing up in a house dominated by women and in a society where the only other option was life of crime.
“Music was more than a hobby for me, more than a talent. It was my escape. I was in the hood. It was either [music] or turn to crime. That’s why I don’t joke with music,” Wizkid said.
The Grammy winner added that he grew up in a “chaotic but fun” environment in Surulere, Lagos state.
Machala said his parents desire for him was different to either be a lawyer or doctor, so telling them that he wanted to do music was hard
He further recounted when he was trying to make his name as a rapper and was taken under the wing of the late producer OJB Jezreel.
Wiz explained; “My parents wanted me to be a lawyer or a doctor. That was a very hard conversation to have when I said I wanted to make music. I had to just prove [myself] to them.”
