On September 18, Agbasimalo and his security detail were reportedly kidnapped while traveling from Ezinifitte to Azia in Anambra State’s Ihiala Local Government Area.

He was on his way to run for office, and he hadn’t been seen or heard from since.

Mrs Agbasimalo, on the other hand, said in a statement released on Friday in Awka that her arms were wide open to meet her son, who had been held captive for almost 90 days.

Angry supporters of Agbasimalo had already barricaded the governor’s office in Awka in protest of their candidate’s kidnapping by unknown gunmen.

Mrs Eucharia Agbasimalo, wife of the abducted candidate also amidst tears, narrated her pains that “more than 83 days after, no one has been able to tell me and my children what has happened to my husband, their father.”

“Now the police have denied receiving any formal report or complaint on the matter. I am indeed heartbroken as I don’t know what to believe, at all.”

The protest comes about 87 days after the kidnapping.

Despite Agbasimalo’s kidnapping, the election was held, and Prof Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
