More vague promises from Biden to impose ‘further costs’ on Iran over its crackdown on protests

The Biden administration is once again talking big, but doing nothing concrete, as protests spread across the globe against the Iranian Islamic regime over the brutal murder of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini by the morality police, for not wearing her hijab correctly.

At first, Biden said that America would sanction the morality police, which was meaningless. Now the administration has announced that it intends to impose “further costs” to hold Iran accountable, but once again, no one can seem to put a finger on anything concrete. Nor is the legacy media pressing for answers.

The Treasury Department “noted that the sanctions are reversible in the event of Iran’s return to JCPOA compliance.” Only there never was compliance to begin with. Iran flaunted the fact that it lied about the nuclear deal. Israel also issued proof of this, with warnings which were unheeded, while the UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency warned that Iran was enriching uranium at levels only seen in countries making bombs.

The best way to impede the ambitions of this human rights-abusing, destabilizing regime is to reimpose the sanctions that Trump had in place. Biden does not know his way on stage, let alone what to do about Iran.

“Biden plans ‘further costs’ for Iran over protests crackdown,” by Alex Gangitano, The Hill, October 3, 2022:

President Biden on Monday condemned the violence against protesters in Iran and said the U.S. will be imposing further costs on perpetrators of the violence against demonstrators.

The president in a statement said an announcement on the “further costs” will come this week and that the U.S. plans to hold Iranian officials accountable and support the rights of Iranians to protest freely.

“For decades, Iran’s regime has denied fundamental freedoms to its people and suppressed the aspirations of successive generations through intimidation, coercion, and violence. The United States stands with Iranian women and all the citizens of Iran who are inspiring the world with their bravery,” Biden said.

Iranian women have been protesting the government following the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman who was arrested by the Morality Police two weeks ago. Biden said in his statement that the U.S. is holding accountable Iranian officials and entities like the Morality Police, which are the government’s enforcers of the Islamic code of conduct in Iran.

The president said that the U.S. is also making it easier for Iranians to access the internet, including by facilitating access to secure outside platforms. Biden said he is “gravely concerned” about the “intensifying violent crackdown.”…
