Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, has apprehended a 38-year-old man identified as Okey Eze with 350 wraps of cocaine worth over an N2.3billion in street value.

The suspect, a Mali-based tiler, was apprehended during an inward clearance of passengers on Ethiopian Airlines Flight 911 en route Bamako-Addis Ababa-Abuja on September 22, 2021.
The unlawful narcotic weighing 7.70 kg was hidden in eight packs stowed in different areas of his suitcase, according to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi.
Eze confessed that he had been traveling to Mali through the Seme border in Badagry, Lagos, since 2019, and claimed he brought the narcotic into Nigeria to help support his late elder brother’s four children.
The suspect also claimed that he asked a friend in Brazil for financial assistance, but that he declined and instead told him to pick up a bag containing the drugs from a friend in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for a fee of N500k if the drugs were delivered successfully to someone whose contact information would be sent to him upon arrival in Nigeria.
He further stated that the suitcase containing the medicines was provided to him at the Addis Ababa airport on Wednesday morning.
