Kanye West affirms Wizkid’s Essence as ‘best song in history of music’

American rapper and businessman, Kanye West, has asserted that Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Wizkid’s hit song, Essence, is the best song in history.

The award-winning artiste made the declaration via his Instagram page on Sunday, September 4th, noting that the track the best in the music history to this day.

Kanye West shared a cover art of Essence on his Instagram page and wrote: “Best song in the history of music to date”.

Interestingly, the song which was released in 2020 off Wizzy’s Made In Lagos album was recently certified Gold in the United States by the RIAA after selling over 500,000 copies.

Also, Essence remix featuring American R&B/pop star, Justin Bieber topped the billboard chart days after its release. It got nominated for a Grammy and received nominations at different award ceremonies and went on to win the BET Award for Best Collaboration.

In July last year, the project became the first Nigerian song to crack the Billboard Hot 100 as well as the third from Africa.

It would later record another leap, climbing by 23 spots on the Hot 100 to hit 59th place.

Wizkid whose real name is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun recently achieved a historic feat in the United States.

The artiste has set record by becoming the first African artiste to bag four different music certifications in the US.

Research firm, Africa Facts Zone broke the news on Twitter as it listed the tracks that earned him the new speak status.

According to AFZ, Wizkid’s song with Tems, Essence; Come closer featuring Drake, Beyonce’s Brown Skin Girl and Drake’s One Dance Come Closer are the tracks that made the international record possible.

It also reported that the Starboy Entertainment CEO holds a similar title in the UK where he 10 music certifications under his belt.
