The idea is that if a man says “talaq,” you are divorced, to his wife, then she is divorced. But he can tell her to come back after he says it once, and do this again after he says it a second time. But if he says it three times, then she has to marry another man, consummate the marriage, and be divorced by him before she can return to her first husband, should he wish her to return. This is all based on the Qur’an: “Divorce must be pronounced twice and then a woman must be retained in honor or released in kindness. And it is not lawful for you that you take back anything from women out of what you have given them, except when both parties are afraid that they may not be able to keep within the limits of Allah. And if you fear that they may not be able to keep the limits of Allah, in that case it is no sin for either of them if the woman ransoms herself. These are the limits of Allah. Do not transgress them. For whoever transgresses Allah’s limits is a wrongdoer. And if he has divorced her, then she is not lawful to him after that until she has married another husband. Then if he divorces her, it is no sin for both of them that they come together again, if they think that they are able to observe the limits of Allah. These are the limits of Allah. He shows them to people who have knowledge.” (Qur’an 2:229-230)
Since it is in the Qur’an, there are likely to be cries of “Islamophobia” and protests over this arrest. But India is doing what every non-Muslim society should do: defending its own societal and cultural integrity. Or is submission the only path that would not be “Islamophobic”?

New Delhi: A man from Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, has been booked for adopting the illegal “triple talaq” method to divorce his wife in April, because she allegedly served him a cold dinner.
According to the police, the wife Umra approached them with a complaint, nearly five months after being “divorced”. Following which, she was recently able to file a first information report (FIR) against her husband Mohammed Salman and three in-laws….
‘Triple Talaq’ was outlawed in 2019
‘Triple Talaq’ was a custom by which a Muslim husband could instantly and irrevocably divorce his wife by uttering the phrase thrice in one sitting.
Recognised by the Islamic Sharia Law, the practice was banned by Parliament in July 2019 as India joined nearly two dozen countries worldwide that have stopped the tradition, including Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
