Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has made a statement which is stirring reactions from the Nigerian electorates.

He urged Nigerians to stop using expensive cars like Mercedes Benz and Lexus if they see borrowing as a crime.

The former Governor of Lagos State who was speaking during a presentation of his campaign manifesto on Friday in Abuja, talked about the nation’s debt and backed the decision of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to continue borrowing.

Tinubu said: “I stand before you proudly, noting that those who are afraid of the budget, the thoughts of borrowing. Yes, borrowing. If borrowing is a crime, entire America should be in jail. If borrowing is a crime, stop using Mercedes Benz and Lexus”.

Many Nigerians were left confused online as to the correlation between the usage of particular brands of vehicles and concerns about huge national debts.

This follows a statement he made at a function in Kaduna days ago, when asked how his administration would tackle climate change if elected, Tinubu said; “Climate change is a question of how do you prevent a church rat from eating a poisoned Holy Communion.”

In other news, the APC flagbearer has said that if elected in 2023, he will fight corruption like President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is doing.

Tinubu made this promise in his campaign policy document unveiled on Friday, adding that he will continue other works of the current administration.

In the 80-page document tagged “Renewed Hope 2023 – Action Plan for a Better Nigeria,” the former governor of Lagos state, said the people want true and innovative solutions which the APC was founded to address.

The document reads partly; “We will continue the work of the current administration in reforming the civil service to fight corruption, reduce bureaucracy, streamline agencies and decrease inefficiency and waste.”
