Gunmen kidnapped the mother of Isyaku Ali-Danja, a Kano House of Assembly member who represents the Gezawa Constituency.

The gunmen invaded the lawmaker’s mother’s home in Gezawa town around 1 a.m. on Wednesday January 12, knocked the door down, and carried her away to an unknown place, according to Daily Nigerian.

Ali-Danja, who was briefly a House speaker, confirmed the occurrence, saying the shooters first asked his mother to unlock the door, but she refused.

“Even before I went to Gezawa, the Divisional Police Officers had called me and told me that he deployed his officers to the scene. He said they have already launched investigation into the matter,” the lawmaker said.

“There is no contact from them so far. We are just praying to Almighty to save her life,” he added.

The assailants have yet to contact Mr Ali-Danja or other members of his family, he added.

Meanwhile, Chief Ernest Shonekan, according to Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, was a leader who will be remembered for his courage, selflessness, and patriotic devotion to the country during a difficult time.

Governor Oyetola further hailed Chief Shonekan as an “older statesman” and “industrialist” whose remarkable talents revealed a strong dedication to Nigeria’s peace, unity, and prosperity both in and out of office.

The Governor stated this in a condolence statement written by Ismail Omipidan, his Chief Press Secretary, and made accessible to DAILY POST on Tuesday.

While expressing regret over the death of the former leader of the Interim National Government, the Osun governor stated that his death had left a space that would take a long time to fill.

In his words, “On behalf of my family, government and people of Osun, I commiserate with the wife of Chief Ernest Shonekan, his family, government and people of Ogun State.

“I pray God grant the soul of Chief Shonekan eternal rest and give his beloved wife, family and the people of Ogun State the fortitude to bear his loss.”

Chief Ernest Shonekan, a former Chairman of UAC Plc, died on Tuesday morning in Lagos. Between August 26 and November 17, 1993, he was the Interim National Government of Nigeria’s leader before being deposed by General Sani Abacha.
