Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, the Governor of Bono State, and Senator Kashim Shettima, his predecessor, have disputed allegations of a visiting suspended police officer, Abba Kyari.
On Wednesday, August 4, a video of Zulum and Shettima with Kyari surfaced online, claiming that the two men paid a solidarity visit to the embattled cop who has been indicted in the Hushpuppi fraud case.
According to a statement published by Governor Zulum’s spokeswoman, Isa Gusau, the governor and his predecessor are unaware of the residence of embattled DCP Abba Kyari, let alone visiting him.
Gusau claimed he had no choice but to offer the correction since Abba Kyari, who had pledged to do it personally, had failed to do so more than four hours after making the promise to the spokesperson.
According to Isa Gusau, the video in circulation was shot by some Abba Kyari associates at Senator Kashim Shettima’s apartment in Abuja on June 30, 2021, when Abba Kyari paid an empathic visit to Shettima following the spread of false claims that the Senator had died in the United Kingdom.
On June 30, immediately after his visit to Shettima, Kyari posted the identical video to his verified Facebook wall. He stated that Kyari, who is from Borno State and represents Shettima’s district, paid a visit to the former Governor to wish him well, as had many others.
Gusau produced a video of some sympathizers who had also visited Senator Gusau at the same time period, in which the senator was shown receiving them in his home, which was also referred to as Abba Kyari’s home. He also directed viewers’ attention to the television behind Zulum and Abba Kyari, which was showing CNN breaking news about the release of American comedian Bill Cosby, which occurred on June 30, 2021, as anyone can verify online.
The spokeswoman urged Abba Kyari to follow through on his pledge to publish a similar explanation after the spokesman brought his attention to the misrepresentation, considering that Kyari took the video and posted it on his Facebook page on June 30, 2021.
