“Police break up Syrian gang of people smugglers: suspected entry of IS fighters,” translated from “Polizei zerschlägt syrische Schlepperbande: Verdacht auf Einreise von IS-Kämpfern,” Exxpress, September 13, 2022 (thanks to Medforth):

The German authorities have announced the dismantling of a human trafficking ring. The Syrian criminals are said to have brought mainly young compatriots across the border. Particularly shocking: IS fighters are also said to have been smuggled into Germany.

On Tuesday morning, 400 German federal police officers searched 20 apartments that are attributed to members and helpers of a Syrian smuggler gang. Focus of the action: The small towns of Korbach and Frankenberg, where six arrest warrants were executed by special forces from the elite unit GSG9. According to the investigation, at least three of the accused were even armed. The accusation: gang and commercial smuggling of foreigners.

Travel to Germany cost up to 2000 euros
The Syrian gang of smugglers, consisting of at least eight men and one woman, was well organized. At least one “scout” car drove ahead to look for police cars. Then came vans and vans carrying illegal migrants. The men paid between 400 and 2,000 euros to be towed across the German border.

Migrants are also said to have been taken from the Belarusian border
Overall, the gang is said to be responsible for at least 147 illegal entries and collected 177,000 euros for it. The witness whose testimony triggered the investigation is now suspected of being involved in her ex-boyfriend’s business. She herself is said to have carried out at least one tour with migrants from the Polish-Belarusian border to Germany. The woman (28) also said that her Syrian ex-boyfriend even brought former IS fighters to Germany. The authorities investigated this suspicion again and again – but so far without success.
