An individual dressed in a djellaba, who threatened passers-by with a kitchen knife with a 30 centimeter blade, was arrested in Marseille on Saturday, July 23. When the police arrived on the scene, he was saying his prayers. According to a police source, the man threatened the officers to kill them if they approached. Fearing for their safety, the latter used an electric pulse gun (PIE) to neutralize him.
The suspect, named Ali B., is 27 years old. He has a criminal record in the “Traitement d’antécédents judiciaires” (TAJ), a police file used in judicial investigations – among others for an attempted murder of a person exercising public authority – and is registered in the S-card index for Islamists. Not seeming to have all his mental faculties, he was then taken to the hospital in order to undergo a psychiatric examination, according to the police source. An investigation has been opened.
