First African-Italian Sports Director Talks About Victor Osimhen

Malù Mpasinkatu, the former sporting director of FC Rieti, is fascinated by the abilities of Nigerian international striker Victor Osimhen and believes that the Napoli striker will be at his best in the next Serie A season 2021-22.

Mpasinkatu, who was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, also claimed that one of Gennaro Gattuso’s regrets was not having Osimhen around during last season’s significant months.

The former Napoli manager was fired in late May after his team finished fifth in Serie A, missing out on a spot in the UEFA Champions League.

Due to a shoulder injury acquired while on international service and coronavirus-related issues, Osimhen was unfit for selection between December and January.

Mpasinkatu, who was appointed as the first African sports director in Italy by Football Club Rieti 1936 in 2018, feels that if Gattuso had Osimhen throughout the season, Napoli would have beaten Juventus to fourth place.

Mpasinkatu told Radio Kiss Kiss, he said;

“It will be his (Osimhen’s) season,”

“One of Gennaro Gattuso’s greatest regrets is not having had him for several months.

“With the Nigerian striker, the Neapolitans would almost certainly have reached the next edition of the Champions League.”
