FG Will Pay Foreign Debts Before Other Obligations – CBN Gov, Godwin Emefiele

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has stated that the Federal government will oversee the payment of foreign debts before fulfilling other obligations, as Nigerians become increasingly concerned about the country’s mounting debt profile.

During a press briefing at the present International Monetary Fund/World Bank Annual Meetings in Washington, DC, the CBN chairman stated this.

In his words

“We have ensured that any of our debts due is given utmost priority, particularly foreign debt.

It is like first line charge, and the minister talks to me about it. And we ensure that wherever we are going to find the dollar, we would pay any of our debts, even before we service any obligation. That is a rule if it is Nigeria’s authentic sovereign debt.”

In other news, Nigerian actor Jide Kosoko has revealed that he feels no remorse for supporting the Buhari-led administration in 2015.

He disclosed to Premium Times in a fresh interview that even though he is saddened about some actions of the President, he can say for sure that Buhari’s administration isn’t totally bad.

As he puts it,

”So many things are responsible for the situation we find ourselves. I can’t speak for the government but I can’t say Buhari (government) is totally bad. I’ve never said so, and I may not say so, but I am disappointed in some of his actions. I hate a situation where the APC government will keep reminding us of how bad things have been since PDP assumed power.

We are all aware of that, before you decided to come on board, deciding to assume power means you have a solution to the problems so that is my own concern. Buhari knows that discipline is his watchword, I wanted to believe him then, but he should know that in getting a corrupt-free society you would face quite a lot of antagonism.

It’s just like a dog eating bone and you want to collect the bone, it would be a tug of war. I believe him and personally, Buhari is not corrupt, but so many things are still going on. This means that prompt action must be taken to ensure that those things stop.”
