Men from the Ogun State police command have detained a couple from the Ilara area of Ode Remo, in the Remo North local government area of Ogun state, for purportedly selling their one-month-old baby for 50,000 naira.

The accused, Eze Onyebuchi and his wife Oluchi Eze, were apprehended on December 16, 2021, after police at Ode Remo divisional headquarters received information that the pair who live at Ayegbami street Ilara Remo willfully sold their one-month-old infant to a woman who hasn’t been found yet.

Following the tip, CSP Olayemi Fagbohun of the Dpo Ode Remo division dispatched his detectives to the area, where the couple was apprehended and taken to the station.

DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state police command’s spokesperson, confirmed the occurrence to newsmen, saying that during interrogation, the suspects disclosed to the police that it was one Mrs. Ruth Obajimi who guided the yet-to-be-identified customer to them.

They went on to say that the woman approached them on December 14, 2021, and told them she was from a human rights office and that she would assist them with fostering their child. Despite not knowing her from Adam, the woman gave them fifty thousand nairas and they handed over the kid to her.

Abimbola stated that all efforts are being made to apprehend the woman in order to reclaim the baby.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspects be immediately sent to the state criminal investigation and intelligence department’s anti-human trafficking and child labor section for more investigation. He also orchestrated a large manhunt for the buyer, who has since fled.
