A 14-year-old girl from Kano State, Atika Aminu Yankaba, took over the Kano State Government in a symbolic takeover staged by High-Level Women Advocacy and UNICEF to commemorate this year’s International Girl Child Day on 11th October 2021.

Yankaba was handed the helm of affairs at 12: 00 pm and she handed it back to Ganduje at 12:20 pm.

Yankaba hosted a State Executive Council meeting with her new cabinet members after completely taking over control from Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, tacking the problems of girl child education as the main agenda.

While presiding over the council meeting, Governor Atika Aminu Yankaba stated that the state requires more cash to create more classrooms, hire more instructors, and prioritize ICT education.

In a news conference that lasted about 20 minutes, she maintained that her government will provide sanitary pads and other necessities for girls to receive a good education.

Before handing over the power, Governor Ganduje gave a few remarks and said: “I’m coming back as soon as possible”.

After he returned, Gnaduje commended the girl for making sure things run smoothly in his absence as she conducted the executive council meeting with no hitches.

he said: “during my absence, I witnessed how you ran the government and it was excellent, the executive council meeting was done marvelously, with all the commissioners contributing wonderfully.”
